sunburn

I went to the beach last weekend on a church beach trip. We went to Tolovana Beach near Cannon Beach, OR. I love the beach -- I always have. I think the ocean and I have always had this connection. It was hard for me to live so far away from it when I was in college. The saddest thing for me about having to use a wheelchair full-time was knowing beach access would be difficult if not impossible in a wheelchair. This weekend was crazy...I ended up missing a dear friend's wedding reception but I had to go. The call of the beach was too much...among other things... The Beach access did have a ramp (which we noticed after the boys had carried me down the stairs.) But at least, they used the ramp when we left. Then, my bro and some friends dragged/carried me through the sand to our spot. It was beautiful. There was hardly any wind (which is amazing for an Oregon Beach) It was in the 70s and clear (which is even more amazing!) I just sat there and soaked up the sun. I didn't have the heart to make someone drag me a the way to the ocean. So, I stayed away from the cold water. Of course, I chatted some. Did some people-watching (and people-mocking). Relaxed. And ate. The only problem was that I wasn't liberal enough with the sunblock and I am albino white, and I got burned. In weird splotches on my arms and legs where I didn't apply sunblock as well. My arm is still burning...4 days later... My one-way ticket to skin cancer has been solidified.... White me at the beach two years ago.
