You can be anything you want...just believe...
My church congregation meets every Monday night and we have a lesson.
I usually have to bite my tongue and remain silent because I find myself disagreeing with the lessons more and more...or sometimes just the stupid comments people make, which is a whole other entry.
My congregation is made up of young single adults, ranging in ages from 18-30+, so many of our lessons are centered around the major decisions young adults make. This lesson was mainly motivation about preparation for a career.
"You can do anything or be anything you want," seemed to be the theme of this week's lesson.
I used to agree, but now after four years of struggling with un- and under-employment with a master's degree, I don't believe that anything is possible.
I sure as hell couldn't play in the NBA. I can't be a doctor. I'd probably kill someone trying to do a simple procedure with my shaky hands. I have a list of things ten miles long of things I can't do or can't be. No one believes I can. Accommodations are too expensive or too much of a bother. My parents think I should just give up. My mom told me not but a month ago that I couldn't get a real job with insurance. "Face it! You're always going to be on medicaid!" she told me.
Anything is possible, unless you're disabled.
Because even if you do believe in yourself, if no one else believes in you, it's hard to be anything.
